I used to think yoga wasn’t for me. I had a hard time getting through an hour-long class. Negative thoughts would creep into my mind: comparison, judgement, restlessness. I couldn’t do the poses like other people in class or online and I found that discouraging.
Then I sustained an injury when training for a triathlon and discovered I had scoliosis and a leg length discrepancy. The more I tried to ignore it or do only the bare minimum, the worse my pain became. I expected my body to perform, but I wasn’t caring for myself on a basic level. That’s when I turned back to yoga.
Through yoga I learned how to take better care of my whole self. How to listen to my body. How to use the props offered in class to modify the poses to suit me. I learned that yoga, self-care, and chronic pain management are a practice, not something that will ever be perfected. I felt grounded and at peace. I’ve benefited from all that yoga has to offer - of which the physical practice is only one piece of the puzzle.
I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher certification with the hopes of sharing all I had learned with those around me. I started Earth Ground Yoga to help my community find their grounded self through yoga. A solid earth ground connection can protect the body and stabilize the mind.
